Hard work (might payoff)...

Well…the new coolout album 3AM has officially been mastered and I can’t wait to unleash it to the world…but man I wish I hadn’t lost a whole night of sleep.

I think it sounds good but after only 3 total hours of rest can I really trust my brain?

Erik (the super-supreme mastering guy) paid me the best complement and said that my mixes were sounded so good that I might not need him anymore.

Of course that ridiculous, I can’t be the artist, songwriter, producer, engineer, AND the mastering guy.

I don’t advise anyone else to try and do that either.

Now the work really starts…

For some reason...

For some reason my twitter posts are showing up on this site.  I’ll keep trying.

Here’s some random tidbits from my world…

  1. My next album 3AM is 90% done. I just need to dot my I’s and cross my T’s.  It’s not a long album, only clocking in about 30 min. and 10 songs.  That’s the way it should be… most classic albums are short. I’d rather hear 10 carefully chosen songs than 30 songs with no direction or cohesion.  You have to be a really, really compelling artist to hold someone’s attention for 2 hours straight. I’ve done, redone, and scrapped various versions of this album at least 4 times over the past 3 years.  Dwight says I sit and listen too much, but I want to be happy with the end result.  I hope the Jon-Michelle album (the coolout album after 3AM that happens already be 50% done) comes together a whole lot quicker.
  1. Speaking of music…on the really geeky side of things.  I’m always into new ways of making music and the whole of idea of innovative instruments using non-traditional input methods fascinates me.  Maybe it’s because I haven’t mastered an acoustic instrument yet.  Anyways…I’ve really been lusting after a menome or tenori-on, but I just settled for a little kaossilator.  I made about 30 beats using that thing in 2 weeks.  I think one will be on the next album.
  1. Speaking of lust…having 7-10 computers is probably enough but I want replace my main desktop and laptop with new dual cores.  I’m probably too obsessed with tech.

I’m also preparing a brand new big show for this fall/winter…about as big as one man can do with practically no outside assistance.  I need a platform to show folks what I can really do..
